It makes it ideal for the ambulatory side of our practice since they do not require refrigeration, use the same reader, and can give you results within 10 minutes. The foal IgG test is great when evaluating newborn foals on the farm as it allows me to determine its IgG status prior to administering any plasma, or in some cases aids in the decision of whether or not to administer the plasma. Having a test I can run stall-side quickly allows me to maximize my time and efficiency and decreases the amount of repeat farm calls if I have to run the bloodwork back at the clinic. I do wish it gave an exact measurement instead of ranges like the SAA test does because the IgG level determines how much plasma is needed to raise it to >800 (e.g. the amount of plasma needed to raise an IgG level of 400 to adequate levels is vastly different than the amount needed to raise an IgG of 799). Overall I would recommend this product, especially for an ambulatory veterinarian, as it allows you to make real time treatment decisions and provide the best possible recommendations to your clients in a quick and timely manner.
