CD5 is expressed early at low density on thymocytes and at high density on all mature T lymphocytes. It is expressed at higher density on CD4 Th lymphocytes as compared to CD8 Tc lymphocytes and expressed at low density on a small subset of mature B lymphocytes, B 1a cells, which is expanded during fetal life and in several autoimmune disorders as well as in some B cell-derived lymphoproliferative disorders (B-CLL) in humans. In cattle and pigs, CD5 is expressed at high density on peripheral blood alpha beta T cells and at a lower density on gamma delta T cells yielding a bimodal density profile in histograms and 2 parameter dot plot profiles using flow cytometry. This dichotomy is not distinct in sheep. Expression is evident on B cells in ruminants but not pigs or horses. It may be expressed on a subset of dendritic cells in peripheral blood in cattle.

This monoclonal antibody is produced as mouse ascites fluid, clarified by centrifugation, and filtered through a 0.2 micrometer filter. The antibody concentration is 1.0 mg/ml in phosphate-buffered saline, preserved with 0.09% sodium azide.
